Fiber laser cutting power, speed, thickness relationship

 

Let’s take carbon steel as an example. As shown in Figure 1, a 1000 watt fiber laser cutting machine is used. For carbon steel materials below 10mm, when the thickness of the carbon steel is less than 2mm, the cutting speed can reach up to 8 meters per minute. When it is 6mm, the cutting speed is about 1.6 meters per minute, and when the thickness of carbon steel is 10mm, the cutting speed is about 0.6 meters to 0.7 meters per minute.

Figure 2 is a 2000 watt fiber laser cutting machine. When the thickness of carbon steel is 1mm, the cutting speed can reach up to 10 meters per minute. When the thickness of carbon steel is 6mm, the cutting speed is about 2 meters per minute, and the thickness of carbon steel is 10mm. When the cutting speed is about 1 meter per minute.

It can be seen that when the thickness of the carbon steel material is less than 2mm, manufacturers that attach great importance to cutting speed can consider using a 2000 watt fiber laser cutting machine, but the 2kw laser cutter is bound to be higher than 1000 watts in terms of equipment price and operating cost. When the carbon steel material is larger than 2mm, the 2000w laser cutter is not much faster than the 1000 watt cutting speed. Therefore, in a comprehensive comparison, the 1000 watt laser cutter is more cost-effective than the 2000w laser cutting machine.

 

Next, take stainless steel as an example. As shown in Figure 2, the maximum speed of using a 500-watt laser cutter to cut stainless steel below 2 mm is about 8 meters per minute, while the maximum speed of using a 1000w laser cutter to cut can reach about 17 meters per minute. The maximum speed of 3mm stainless steel using a 500w fiber laser cutting machine is about 0.4 meters per minute, while the maximum speed of using a 1kw laser cutter is about 1.4 meters per minute. The difference is very obvious. It can be seen that when facing the 500-watt and 1000-watt fiber laser cutting machines, the 1000-watt fiber laser cutting machine is obviously a more sensible choice.

The cutting speed can directly reflect the efficiency of the fiber laser cutting machine. For cutting different materials and thicknesses, the cutting speed will also vary greatly. The thicker the thickness, the slower the speed. The table below shows the comparison of cutting power and speed with a fixed thickness.

For different metal materials, the cutting thickness of different power laser cutting machines has a great relationship with the cutting material. 1000 watts, 2000 watts...How thick can laser cutting machines of various powers cut?

 

Generally speaking, the thickness limit values of different laser cutting machines for cutting various materials are as follows:   (For reference only, the actual cutting capacity is also related to the quality of the cutting machine, cutting environment, auxiliary gas, cutting speed, and other factors.)

In the actual application process, the cutting ability of the fiber laser cutting machine is also related to the quality of the cutting machine, laser type, cutting environment, cutting speed, and other factors. The use of auxiliary gas can also improve a certain cutting ability, so there is no absolute standard that judges its cutting thickness. For example, the cutting of carbon steel mainly relies on oxygen combustion, and the cutting of stainless steel mainly relies on power. Generally, a 1000w fiber laser cutting machine can cut a carbon steel plates of about 10mm, stainless steel plate is slightly difficult to cut. To increase the cutting thickness, it is necessary to sacrifice the edge effect and speed.
